Chopin: "Ballade # 1 + 4; Two Nocturnes op. 27; Four Mazurkas op. 33; "Sonata # 3."
Sylvia Torán (piano) CD, QS6142-ASV.
..."Young Madrid pianist Sylvia Torán, whose career keeps ascending, comes to us now through the prestigious ASV label and she does this with a Chopin recital, no less. It is a daring decision to become known in this field which has been so much frequented by the greats and where, therefore, it is difficult to stand out...
...Her Chopin is not contained or inhibited which is the way it is often played nowadays. It is not a Chopin that takes pleasure in feminine grace, in indolent and aristocratic charm or in "preciousness" per se. On the contrary, her Chopin is energetic, emotional, heroic, although precise in the "rubatos" and free from any exaggeration; it does not lack in intimacy when the music requires it yet it shows a strong propensity towards passionate fire and even massive and powerful sonority. In other words, this is a Chopin extremely well played, clearly, independent from the way in which it is being played nowadays."... |
